| New York Times ends support for official BlackBerry, WebOS apps Jul 25th 2012, 21:16  Looks like the New York Times is signaling the death knell for RIM, albeit subtly. In a move that surely underscores the withering faith content companies have for the once beloved platform, the venerable Sulzberger-backed news organization has pulled all support for its DealBook Reader and NYTimes app for BlackBerry as of July 23rd. Users that attempt to access that application in the days since will find a stale content list that no longer updates and are being urged, instead, to visit the paper's mobile site for a "more complete... experience." And as if the ailing Waterloo-based company hadn't suffered enough indignity, it's been cast out of the developer pen alongside WebOS, joining PalmPre users on the reject list. Not to worry though, the Times crossword app has yet to get the axe -- that's got to be some consolation, no? You can check out the NYT's official line on its decision at the source below.

Permalink |  NYT | Email this | Comments | | Nokia Maps for Windows Phone updated with route planner and Groupon integration Jul 25th 2012, 20:49  It feels like it was only yesterday that Nokia handed its Windows Phone Maps application a complete and quite hefty makeover, which, as we know, brought the addition of reviews and friends' photos to the app. Regardless, Nokia Maps appears to be ready to hit version 2.5, bringing with it an all-new Groupon integration to help US folks find nearby deals and a route planner service that, well, should be pretty self-explanatory. At any rate, WMPoeruser says the update should be hitting the Redmond Marketplace sometime "soon," but feel free to let us know if you happen to catch it a little bit earlier than others. Now, it may or may not be in hopes of a better second half, but the Chinese outfit's just very quietly taken the wraps off of its newest tablet: the MediaPad 7 Lite. As the numerical figure in the moniker would tell, this particular Huawei tablet sports a 7-inch (1280 x 800) form factor, with other features like Mountain View's Ice Cream Sandwich and 3G connectivity (WiFi as well) also said to be included in the light package. Sadly, there's still many deets up in the air, as Huawei hasn't revealed where, or when, we can expect the MediaPad 7 Lite to launch. Permalink TalkAndroid | Huawei | Email this | Comments | | Fujitsu Stylistic M532 Android tablet cozies up to the FCC Jul 25th 2012, 19:26  Half a year has gone by with nary a word nor sighting, but it looks like Fujitsu's svelte Stylistic M532 tab is ready to break cover. Spotted in the FCC's database, the 10.1-inch Android slate bears all the makings of a WiFi-only affair, as it lists support for a/b/g/n protocols, in addition to Bluetooth. From what we've gleaned in the separate filings, the ICS tablet should also come loaded up with a 3,170mAh battery -- a generous cell size to complement its Tegra 3 CPU. Aside from this recent Commission appearance, no official announcement has been made to port this slim fella stateside. But where there's an FCC doc, there's usually a launch not far away.
