Samsung demos Series 5 Ultra Touch and Series 5 Ultra Convertible Ultrabooks, we go hands-on Jun 5th 2012, 02:38 Well, look at what we have here! We just swung by Samsung's booth at Computex, and the outfit is showing off not one, but two touch-enabled variations of its Series 5 Ultrabooks. These include the Ultra Touch, a classic clamshell laptop, along with the Ultra Convertible, whose 13-inch display folds all the way back (not unlike the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga). Both devices are on their way stateside; it's just not clear when or how much they'll cost. Until then, we've got hands-on preview photos below, along with detailed impressions and a pair of walk-through videos (coming soon!). So join us, won't you? Rowling's 'Book of Spells' Jun 5th 2012, 02:36 If you were wondering what Sony planned next for the PS Move, the answer is apparently... books. Just displayed at its pre-E3 press conference, Wonderbooks will let users turn physical books into the best pop-up adventure of all time. As seen in the presentation, it could project images onto the book, letting users peer own dark tunnels, cast spells or even dodge a flying dragon that escaped from the pages. On the downside, the task looked a bit complicated for the target audience, requiring them to manipulate the book, look at their TV to see the effects and wave a wand with their other hand. There was a bit of a demo fail during the presentation, we'll see if things work more smoothly when we get some hands-on time tomorrow. The first PlayStation 3 Wonderbook title available is by none other than Harry Potter writer JK Rowling, who brings the Book of Spells for muggles to try their hands at Hogwart's best-known incantations. Permalink | | Email this | Comments | How would you change Samsung's NX200? Jun 5th 2012, 02:31 It's that time of the week when we look back at a recently-released device and find out if your experiences matched our own. This week, it's Samsung's NX200 ILC, which was aiming to knock the Sony NEX-C3 from its perch (and a spot in our staff kit bag). Broadly, the shooter delivered great battery life, good image quality and a novice-friendly user interface that brought it oh so close to besting the C3. However, a $900 price tag and iffy focusing meant that it won't be on our list when it comes time for an upgrade. But plenty of you went out and bought one of these (or the NX210), so what have your experiences been with it? Let's get a good old discussion going. Well, sorry to disappoint you, but that doesn't mean there's no news on the PlayStation front, as Sony's just informed the world that the PlayStation Suite has been renamed PlayStation Mobile. Not only that, but it's opening PS Mobile to third-party Android manufacturers, and as was rumored, HTC is the first handset maker not named Sony to get certified -- meaning that you'll soon be able to get your PlayStation on using the Taiwanese outfit's hardware. Unfortunately, we don't know when HTC will debut its first such handset, nor when other Android makers will get in on the action, but it's nice to see Sony finally start to share the gaming love. Games like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will allow players to compete against each other, regardless of which Sony console they're using. The so-called cross-play functionality isn't limited to live play either, some games (including the aforementioned PS All-Stars) will allow you to save your game on one and pick up where you left off on the other. There will also be new downloadable content that will span Sony's home and portable consoles. The cross-controller DLC will come first to Little Big Planet 2, which will let you use your Vita to actually create levels on the PS3. Sadly Sony wouldn't divulge too many more details, but we can expect Battle Royale to hit shelves this holiday season. We guess this multi-screen entertainment thing is really going to take off this year. Permalink | | Email this | Comments | Sony announces white PS Vita bundle with Assassin's Creed III: Liberation Jun 5th 2012, 01:46 Still not sold on the PlayStation Vita? Then Sony's hoping that it's latest bundle will be more to your liking. In addition to the just-announced Assassin's Creed III: Liberation game, it packs a limited edition "crystal white" PS Vita (WiFi only), along with a 4GB memory card. Unfortunately, you'll still have a bit of a wait before you can get your hands on it, with the bundle only set to hit stores on October 30th (coinciding with the game's release). No word on a price for it just yet, nor is there any word on the white PS Vita being sold separately. Not to be left out, the PlayStation 3 is also getting an Assassin's Creed III bundle of its own, which includes the game and some exclusive DLC -- no price for it either, though.
